Perhaps this scherzo taken from Alfred’s Basic Adult Piano Course, Lesson Two sums up this well-known strategy for improvement . . .

Much to my sorrow it’s Vladimir Horowitz Who plays piano much better than I.

And pianissimo, also fortissimo, I can’t believe how is fingers can fly!

If I just had a mere portion of Vladimir Horowitz’ talent I’d practice all day..

I’ve had a suspicion it’s more than ambition, it’s how many D.C. al fines you play.

Maybe tomorrow it’s Vladimir Horowitz who’ll be applauding the music I play.

Presto, prestissimo,  Brav-o, bravissimo! I’m getting better and better each day!
